The Young Assistant and Associate Professors who are HOOs! Our mission: to help reforge a faculty club wherein we can all come together, socialize, relax, learn, share ideas, and enjoy life. Sponsored by the generous support of the Colonnade Club and the Office of the Provost, the YAAHOOs Club is a place for you to meet other young UVA faculty, explore what our University and Charlottesville communities have to offer… and smile and have a drink with friends while you’re at it!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the cut-off age for YAAHOOs membership?
A: Currently the cut-off age is roughly set at around around <45 years old. (Exceptions can be made for those who are close to this age and still especially young at heart!)
Q: Can other members of the UVA faculty who do not hold Assistant or Associate Professor rank (e.g. lecturers) ever become members of the YAAHOOs?
A: Yes, but this process is not automatic and they are not instantly approved as current Assistant and Associate Professors are. In accordance with the bylaws of the Colonnade Club (to which all YAAHOOs automatically receive membership), such applicants must be nominated for membership by two current club members (members of the entire Colonnade Club not necessarily just the YAAHOOs), submit an application for membership, and then the club’s Board of Governors will review these documents and vote on approving their membership at their monthly meeting.
Q: How does membership work for households containing two UVA faculty members? Does each one need to pay separate membership dues?
A: If one of the two UVA faculty member household signs up for membership, we are currently willing to grant each faculty member individual membership privileges (i.e. both will receive our correspondence and would be able to sign up for events). However, this is done with the understanding that they will not ever try to exploit the “special guest” discount that is applied to most events. In other words, if they want to invite extra guests to an event beyond just the two of them, they should not try to sign up individually in an attempt to each try to invite and additional extra guest at the discounted “special guest” rate (which is intended to subsidize the cost of a member’s significant other). Please contact us if you have signed up for membership and would also like your UVA faculty spouse to receive membership status.
