Programming Manager

OVERVIEW

The Colonnade Club at the University of Virginia seeks a Programming Manager to join its dedicated, growing team in stewarding our membership and the historic buildings we call home. The Programming Manager will be responsible for envisioning, planning and executing diverse programming that delivers on the Colonnade Club vision to craft rich social and intellectual experiences for our members and the University community. Additionally, the Programming Manager will serve as the lead staff member for the Club’s external event program, managing and strategizing this crucial revenue stream for the Club. Reporting directly to the Club’s General Manager, this individual serves as an integral part of our management team.

For this highly-visible role, the Club is seeking a self-motivated, adaptable team player with the ability to liaise with the various constituencies that makes up our membership, as well as with a myriad of University clients through the uppermost level of administration and leadership.

    The Colonnade Club seeks an individual for this role who is an experienced professional who loves to manage events and develop programming, and understands the needs of a mission-driven, membership- based organization.

    JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for planning and executing all Colonnade Club events to serve existing members, cultivate new members, and/or steward existing donors, depending on the stated aim of the program.

Plan a portfolio of over 25+ on Grounds and local events including board meetings, social events, educational events, and interdepartmental university ceremonies/events.

  • Serve on multiple Board committees for specific programming goals or affinity groups, helping to align committee ideas with Club strategy.

  • In conjunction with the GM, develop new policies and procedures to make the planning, execution and follow-up of events more intentional and comprehensive to maximize the return on investment.

  • Liaise daily with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders including members, prospective members, sponsored guests, university administrators, faculty, University donors, students, and volunteers.

  • Manage all elements of the events lifecycle, including site selection, vetting and contracting vendors; managing vendor negotiation and correspondence, and supervising vendors day-of.

  • Manage creation of event communications including invitations, programs, and follow up pieces for both members as well as internal memos and reports

  • Manage the external event rental business within the Club, driving revenue, member satisfaction, and membership growth. Serve as the primary point of contact with all external event clients.

  • Demonstrate a passion for the University, hospitality, and relationships and deliver innovative, compelling moments to the members of the Colonnade Club

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong people and management skills, with the ability to appropriately assign or delegate work and authority to others in the accomplishment of goals.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, with significant higher education and/or donor relations experience, to include a minimum of 3 years event management experience with clear track record of accomplishments.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 7+ years’ experience in the hospitality industry.

  • Experience in financial accounting is an added advantage.

  • Excellent computer and communication skills, including comfort with database entry and use.

  • Knowledge of UVA’s distinct culture or history a plus.
